Will ‘Twilight’ Make Studio Turnaround Fashionable at Last? [Trade Secrets] [ November 21st, 2008 ] Posted in » Celebrities

Paramount production president Brad Weston has had a squirmy few days since Patrick Goldstein outed him as the man who put Twilight in turnaround at the studio, deflecting blame where he can while watching the movie blossom into a potential billion-dollar franchise for Summit Entertainment. But listen closely through the catcalls and snickers around town, and you’ll hear a voice imploring calm, even understanding: Turnaround is a good thing!

Or so argues an anonymous filmmaker who today sent word to Hollywood Elsewhere praising the timeless tradition of unloading book and script options, lest they moulder in middle management’s closets instead of rocketing past a green light on another lot:

“When Goldstein ran that story, it increased the level of paranoia in the studios and now people aren’t as likely to put projects into turnaround, which is what saves or releases some projects and results in their being made into films at other studios [...] Let’s say I have a property that’s owned by a studio and it’s not working out. In this situation a studio exec saying to me ‘Fine, I’ll put it into turnaround and let you have it, take it across the street to Warner Bros. and God speed’ is usually an act of benevolence. It saves a project from death.

“Now with this Weston thing, a lot more studio execs and [sic] going to say ‘Sure, I let you take it elsewhere and then two years from now I’ll read about how I’m the asshole who let a big hit go to some other studio? Fuck it, I’m going to hang onto it. I’d rather have the project die here than have it go elsewhere than have an article turn up down the road that’ll make me look stupid.’”

All right, all right, Weston, we get it — you did the right thing. Turnaround for all! You first, Poltergeist.

Britney Spears Throws On A Bikini In Vegas

The girl must have needed a weekend in the sun. Looking much more like the “old Britney,” Spears spent the weekend at the Mirage Hotel and Casino’s exclusive villas. According to People,
rather than staying by her private pool, Spears made her way to Bare
Pool where she sipped Fiji bottled water and sunned in the VIP area.

Britney Spears‘ former boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib was also at the Mirage
at the same time. Apparently no contact was made between the two, even
though they were just yards away from each other at times. Spears ended
her evening with Cirque du Soleil’s Love show. It’s glad to see Britney’s soaking in some culture.

Julia Roberts Takes The Twins To Hawaii

Julia Roberts and her adorable twins have gone to Hawaii for a fun family vacation. You don’t see too much of Hazel and Phinnaeus, but I think they are just as cute as any other celebrity baby out there. Stinky Julia looks good in that Victoria’s Secret swimsuit half of my sorority sisters owned.

Also, whoever this photographer may be, they’ve got balls. Big ones. Juila is not afraid to go after the paparazzi, and I’m guessing that the children being present would make mama hen go off the deep end. In which case, they probably would no longer have any balls. Just sayin’.

Tara Reid Confused About How This Suicide Thing Works

Bikini saleswoman Tara Reid
is still making the rounds, promoting her new Mantra beachwear line at
the Las Vegas fashion tradeshow “When I Move You Move.” I feel like she
should not look so confused while handling her wares. It’s not exactly
instilling a whole lot of faith in her potential customers.

All this trash looks familiar. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Tara styled the set and costumes for Heidi Montag’s music video opus. It’s nice when trashy blond hookers help each other out. Heartwarming, even.

Jennifer Love Hewitt wishes she’d been nude from age 12 to 28

Jennifer Love Hewitt despite her proclamations after Bikini-Gate that’s she secure with her body, dropped 18 pounds over the past couple of months and plans on running a marathon on her 30th birthday. (My sources tell me a team of scientists at NASA are building her a sports bra.) Jennifer recently sat down with Health magazine to give the greatest goddamn advice I’ve ever heard in my life - but not counting the part about her wanting to be a nude 12-year-old. I don’t even know:
